Phil Ivey is an absolute champion… at only 30 years of age. His trademark stare, his serious yet unreadable face, his advanced understanding of the finer points of the game and his gambler’s heart combines to strike fear in every opponent that sits at his table.
Ivey is originally from New Jersey and worked in sales up until the late 1990s. After work, he was cutting his teeth on the local poker games. In 2000, at age 23, he won his WSOP bracelet. Then in 2002, he won a record-tying three WSOP bracelets in one year. Aside from this and many other tournament victories, Ivey plays the biggest cash games in the US. His opponents will occasionally include Doyle Brunson, Chip Reese, Larry Flynt, Johnny Chan and Barry Greenstein.
Ivey currently resides in Las Vegas and is a world class poker professional with a bright future in front of him. Despite all his success, those who know him say that he is a fierce competitor who, despite being at the top, consistently works on improving his game. If his form improves any further, the so-called “Tiger Woods of Poker” may be recorded in future history as one of the greatest players of all time. |
